Essays Speeches Interviews

Edited by Kai U. Jürgens
ca. 320pp

The prettiest talent is no use, if an author is not capable of sitting down at a table and remaining there very determinedly. This quotation from the Speech of Thanks on the Award of the State Prize of Rhineland Palatinate in 1997 is only one example of the trenchant manner with which Ror Wolf has repeatedly discussed his role as a writer and his own aesthetic intentions.

Apart from the essays My Qualifications (1966 and 1971), First Experiences as a Reader (1976), and The Magic Eye Winks (1989 and 2000) the volume includes not only his major prize acceptance speeches but also a selection of statements and reviews.
